Hi Richard here from eBike Sussex in Shoreham by Sea West Sussex.
It is no secret that Haibike and TQ eBike Systems have phased out providing replacement parts for the prestigious FLYON system. Also new Haibike FLYONS are no longer available to buy in the UK and will be stopped Internationally as stock is sold it won’t be replaced. This has proved frustrating for those that have purchased the Ferrari of the ebike world. With 120Nm of torque, it still stands as the most powerful road legal system available and its iconic design makes other e-bikes look and feel like toys in comparison. We are often asked if the FLYON was made again would we stock it, and the answer is always yes! They are a once in a lifetime machine which represent the culmination of the worlds largest ebike manufacturer (Haibike) with the largest of design budgets to collaborate with a space-tech-level motor and electronics company (TQ) to produce a dream ebike, with the fullest of integration. This task was mountainous and the end result was a range of e-bikes that united anyone that had ridden one in saying they are an amazing beast in a new class of power. As time has gone by, it has subsequently divided those people into two groups, the ones that can afford to keep them running and the ones that unfortunately cannot. I myself have owned two FLYONs, the popular ALLMTN 8 in green. I sold my last one believing I would be able to buy a new replacement from the supplier and unfortunately was told they were stopping production a few months later. Customers now have the problem of finding somewhere that can service their FLYON ebike, not everyone lives near our store in Shoreham by Sea, but some FLYON customers have travelled for many hours to visit us for our expertise and experience. We also hold spares for FLYON e-bikes, although they are ring-fenced for those that purchased from us and those with service plans. We want to look after those that see value in what we do, and we have a responsibility to do so. We have sold a HUGE number of FLYONS over the years, and are proud to be able to offer our knowledge where we can.
With the off the chart power levels involved with the FLYON it literally meant we had to redraw our motor comparison chart! Before that the range was 50NM of torque up to 85NM. With great power comes great wear level of components, and with full integration we learnt quite quickly that pressure washers and hoses were ill advised to be used on the Haibike FLYON e-bikes. Water could get in but not escape quite fast enough in our experience. A ‘less is more’ policy with cleaning was adopted, and our handovers on new FLYONS sold became more in depth as time progressed. Likewise the Rossenberger connection to the battery and charger was another innovation that required some extra care when storing the charger and battery to ensure loose metal swarf or washers from your garage floor would not stick to the end of the charger and ultimately short across the battery terminal end. It became apparent that storing the charger end in a sandwich bag with a rubber band was sensible in some households (mine!).
As time goes on what are the components that are likely to be the hardest to get hold of and the most likely to be needed on the FLYON? In our experience so far the batteries are the thing I would most likely want a second one on rotation of as it seems to be the component that is hardest to ship Internationally because of shipping laws, and if TQ aren’t producing FLYON batteries it will get even harder to source them as time goes by. We have a small number of motors in stock and wiring looms and handlebar controls, as I understand it you can get these online too from quite a few stores, and chain rings are also still available online. The Facebook Haibike FLYON forum is a great place to look if you need advice on where to source a particular component in your given country. The chances are someone knows a Haibike dealer that invested in the stock at the time.
We are Haibike FLYON specialists and have all of the diagnostics equipment, spares and servicing know how needed to keep your powerful FLYON motor system working.
